Dear Shalites,
Hello Shalites, we are playing in the yoga rooms with the sweet summer vibes & heat opening us to the core of awareness. It is so delightful to be in the flow of warm winds and changing days. I commend your yoga class attendance, whilst we still fit in our swimming and pic-nics, bikerides and festivals.

NEWS
AND UPDATES:
KATHY COOPER IS COMING IN AUGUST!

Omg this woman is amazing. She learned learned the primary, intermediate, and advanced a & b series from David Williams more than 30 years ago. She met Pattahabi Jois in 1980, who imediately introduced half-hour headstands into her practice. Jois returned to Maui frequently in the 80s and early 90s, where Kathy always studied with him, forging a deep bond with him as one of his early students when the Ashtanga yoga movement was still small.
Kathy has informed her Ashtanga practice by studying with senior Ashtanga teachers over the years, and more recently with teachers grounded in Iyengar yoga, completing a three-month Anusara training in 2006. She also practices meditation, attendeds retreats, and for the past 12 years worked with awakened teachers. Adyashanti is her primary teacher for the past six years.
Kathy looks forward to supporting students in unlocking and deepening their practice to experience the purification, healing and opening to the truth of being inherent in Ashtanga yoga.
Kathy Cooper has been practicing and teaching Ashtanga yoga for thirty some years. She has completed all the postures in the K. P. Jois
tradition and would be considered a PHD in this field. If you are a sincere and devoted student, you would be lucky to study with her.
Rick Heiman
28 year student of K.P. Jois
Maui, Hawaii
Kathy is very qualified to teach Ashtanga Yoga. Through years of practice, Kathy has shown her love and understanding of the Ashtanga method taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. She is excellent at taking beginning students safely into the practice, as well as teaching the more advanced practitioners. I have no hesitation in recommending her.
Nancy Gilgoff
"Kathy Cooper is the Grand Madam of Ashtanga Yoga."
-Tim Miller
What an amazing teacher! Kathy is one of the few “old” students of Pattabhi Jois who continues to practice daily for over three decades.
Her grace, compassion and knowledge continue to inspire students of all ages and levels.
-John Smith-certified Ashtanga Yoga Teacher

Authorized teacher Christopher Conn from Scotland will be teaching at the Shala starting in September.
In 2001 Christopher discovered the dynamic system of Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga via the Primary series DVD by Richard Freeman and began practicing 3 or 4 times per week at home along to the DVD. The series was challenging and appeared, then as now, to be a lifetimes study and practice.
In 2004 Christopher first visited India to practice with Lino Miele, an old time, certified student of Sri K. Patthabi Jois of Mysore in the South of India. Christopher has returned to India every year since to practice at the KPJAYI in Mysore, the source of Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga and the home town of Sri Tirumalai Krishnamacharya, the father of yoga in the modern age. Christopher's experiences in India and with this powerful system of yoga are, for him, the beginnings of a substantially different emerging world view. Christopher teaches from his practice and encourages practitioners to listen to their body. He believes that: "It is only logical that we should adopt a structured, progressive, and personalized approach, not just in asana practice but in any form of exercise or therapy." -A.G. Mohan.
Christopher hopes to establish a consistent morning practice for those interested, and we are so happy to have him teaching at the Shala.
